Throughout my experience, as Speech- Language Pathologist, I have found that patients experiencing voice disturbances also notice a change with themselves. Your voice defines you and when it changes... you feel as though you changed too. Voice therapy not only trains you how to breath again, but how only to use your voice without straining it.
Socializing, most of the time involves food and when that is taken away, your interactions with people change. Whether it is because of a stroke, dementia, or cancer working hard to get you eating and drinking again is a priority. |
VoiceA voice disorder occurs when the pitch, loudness, or quality of the voice distracts from what the speaker is saying. It is also a problem if the speaker experiences pain or fatigue when speaking or singing.

SwallowingA Swallowing disorder can be pain or difficulty swallowing. I can evaluate and treat "dysphagia" by providing specific swallowing therapy (e.g., exercises to improve muscle movement);
positions or strategies to help the individual swallow more effectively; recommend specific food and liquid textures that are easier and safer to swallow. |
FEES vs MBSSFiberoptic Endoscopic Swallowing evaluation (FEES) is when the SLP passes a endoscope through the nose to visualize the larynx while the person is eating and drinking.
Modified Barium Swallowing Study is when the SLP works in conjunction with the Radiologist to view the pharynx during swallowing under x-ray. NOW I CAN DO BOTH! Call for an appointment. |
