About MeWe tend to focus on the negative aspects of what we "can't"do, but in my practice I am looking to incorporate what you can do and enhance it. Rehabilitation take time and patiences, but I am there every step of the way to help you achieve the best possible you.
I just published my first article!! Check it out! www.scms-sam.org click on quarterly bulletin for January 2016 ASPIRATION PNEUMONIA AND ADMISSION TO SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES By Veronica Cea M.S. CCC/SLP Aspiration Pneumonia (PNA) affects about 300,000 to 600,000 people each year in the United States. (1-3) Aspiration pneumonia is also common among residents of nursing homes. This article addresses an issue that lies between the autonomy of the patient’s choices and the federal/state laws governing the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The Federal Administration came out with New Dining Practices Pioneer Network Food and Dining Clinical Standards Task force in August of 2011 NewDiningPracticeStandards with a memorandum in 2013 and video training SurveyorTraining for surveyors. These new standards of practice advocate honoring patient’s choices, offering real foods first, liberalization of foods, and encouraging a proactive response to patients who have refused the prescribed diet. |
Who I am |
Getting your voice back, is something I have studied at Marymount Manhattan College and at New York Medical College for. Whether it is because your voice is hoarse and raspy, because of cancer, stroke or due to a disease process like Parkinson's, I can help find the way for you to be heard.
Socializing with family and friends encompasses good living. But when situations occur when you are not able to eat or drink or converse with your loved ones, feeling isolated can happen. As a former Swallowing Disorder Specialist at NYU, getting you back to eating and drinking is a priority. |
My training |
My voice training includes Conversation Training Therapy, Hygienic voice therapy, Resonant Voice Therapy, Muscle Tension Dysphonia, Respiration Retraining Therapy, speaking valve placement as well as voice prosthesis'. I also have attended the Susan Langmore FEES training and Advanced FEES training at Boston Medical Center. I have worked with swallowing disorders extensively, am Vital-Stim therapy certified and and performed MBSS for the last 10 years. I have 16 years experience working with patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication disorders. LSVT LOUD trained.
